What is a OBC Certificate?

OBC is refers to ‘Other Backyard Classes’. This certificate is the official statement given by the government to the individual who are belongs to these category. It is also a caste certificate which has its own benefits which are provided by government of India. OBC certificate have to renew each year.

Who can Apply for OBC Certificate?

  • Individual should be an Indian citizen.
  • One of their parental blood relative should have OBC certificate.
  • Their caste should be enlisted in the OBC list.
  • Individual should not come under the creamy layer category (income more than 8lakh per annum).

Documents Required for OBC Certificate

    1. Passport size photo
    2. Birth certificate or birth certificate
    3. Copy of OBC certificate of his/her father, brother, sister or blood relative from paternal side.

    Proof of residence:(Anyone is mandatory)

  2. Water Bill
  3. House tax
  4. Telephone bill

Benefit for OBC Certificate

  • There will be about 27% quota in the government jobs for candidate who is belongs to the OBC category.

  • There is also 27% quota in the government institute in term of seats for the students who come from the OBC category.

  • The age limit to attend examination like UPSC Civil Service Exam is higher for candidates belongs to OBC category with respect to upper caste.

  • There is also relaxation on the number of attempt of examination.

  • Also if you come under non-creamy OBC (i.e. income less than 8lakh per annum) then you will get the benefit of reservation of seats in the government jobs.

  • Reservation in elected bodies: People belonging to the OBC category can avail of reservation in elected bodies such as the local Panchayat, Municipality, or Legislative Assembly.

  • Other benefits: Apart from the above benefits, OBC certificate holders can also avail of various schemes and programs launched by the central and state governments for the welfare and development of the OBC communities, such as healthcare, housing, and infrastructure development.
